christ follower

Asking forgiveness from others is often hard, even for the most mature Christians. Rob centers on the phrase “how will this be retold?” and gives an example of a business contact that he once wronged and later sought forgiveness from. God’s Holy Spirit told him to make amends and ask forgiveness of the man. Seek to make amends with others. You represent Jesus. When others retell the story of your interaction, will it honor Him?

Throughout his walk with God, Rob’s behavior has earned both good and bad reactions. Some recognized Christ in his life through his good deeds. Others saw his mistakes and couldn’t believe he was, in fact, a Christ follower. In this clip, he owns up to his errors, and shares a story of God leading him to ask forgiveness from others.

When he worked in the automotive industry, he owned multiple repair shops in California. The company Hunter dominated the alignment machine repair niche in his area. The repair man always rubbed Rob the wrong way.

After butting heads one time too many, Rob called the company and essentially asked Hunter to redistrict, so he wouldn’t have to work with him. They caved to Rob’s request, which meant the repair man would end up losing work, as well as income for his family.

Five years down the line, the Holy Spirit led Rob to contact the repair man and apologize. Whether or not he accepted the apology and forgave Rob for his sins against him, we do not know. Rob was just obeying God’s command, and that is all that matters. Hopefully, if this gentleman retells the story, the end involves a Christian seeking to make things right with him, thus demonstrating what real faith is all about.

God puts everyone in our path for a reason. Even when people are rude to us, it is important that believers show Christian empathy to them. In this clip, Rob talks about how the book “Holy Moments” has influenced his sense of empathy.

Holy Moments can happen anywhere - Christian EmpathyHoly Moments Book and Christian Empathy

Rob started the clip by sharing his new mantra for when he doesn’t feel like doing an important task: “Do it anyway”. This phrase has served him well throughout this year. One of the things that we rarely would want to do involves encountering people who act rudely toward us for seemingly no reason.

Turn the other cheek? No way! Our instincts (and the world) tell us that we should let that person have it because of their disrespect.

“Holy Moments” reminds us that we do not know what that person is going through in their life. Chances are, they are struggling with issues just like ours, and we caught them at a bad moment. If we see these encounters as opportunities to respond kindly instead, we may just bless that person, as well as ourselves.

Even a brief act of kindness can turn someone’s life around. There are no coincidences. God puts us in each others’ paths in order to accomplish His plan. Christian empathy means listening to the Holy Spirit, recognizing that fact, and responding with kind words and deeds.
