"Addicted to Life" Chapter 5 Review - You Must Be Open to the Unexpected!

Fresh knowledge incoming! In this Addicted To Life! chapter review webinar, Rob talks about being open to the unexpected. This was a key component in his success journey, as he outlined in Chapter 5.

Unexpected giftsWhat Does “Being Open To The Unexpected” Mean?

After a quick review of the main ideas of Chapters 1 – 8, Rob unpacks the concept of Chapter 5, “Be Open To The Unexpected”. He has found that the biggest opportunities are often the least expected ones, and come from seemingly unlikely sources. How can we apply this principle to our lives as we rise above our current stations?

Don’t waste your gifts and your talents, just to stay where you are in life.

Rob looks back at the point where he was clean and sober, and probation was in his rear view. What if he had decided that was good enough? Maybe in an alternate universe, he decided that improving his situation further wasn’t worth the extra effort? Thank God he didn’t make that choice! Think of how many people Rob has impacted because he recognized The Lord had much more in store for him!

At that point, Rob was comfortable. He did not expect it when his dad told him that he needed to move to California and open his  first business. This unexpected opportunity started a long journey of continual self improvement.

"Addicted to Life" Chapter 4 Review - You Have to Prepare NOW for What’s Coming!

The theme of Addicted To Life! Chapter 4 is “You Have To Prepare Now For What’s Coming!” Rob expands on this concept by explaining how it played out in his story.

Prepare for what's next before you climb the mountain.Prepare NOW Or You Will Regret It Later!

After a quick recap of the first three chapters, Rob reminds us that the difference between where you are right now and where you’ll be in five years will be the books you read, media you consume, classes you attend, and people you meet. What are you surrounding yourself with today, and how would you like your life to look in five years? You must step out in faith in order to reach that goal, which Rob calls your Ideal Scene. Before you can take advantage of the right opportunity, you must prepare now.

Next, Rob talks about advantages. Rob has had many opportunities over the years. Very few of them were easy choices, since there was inherent risk involved. Rob had to examine the advantages he had built for himself in the marketplace to determine if those opportunities were the right choices for him, business wise. Ask yourself, “What am I doing to set myself apart in the marketplace?” and you’ll know if you are prepared.

Opportunities Rob Took Advantage Of Over The Years

One such opportunity was Rob ordering Carleton Sheets’ property investment course years ago. Even though Rob technically couldn’t afford the manual, he did have the advantages of motivation and work ethic to see the course through. He applied what he learned in order to lay the capstone of his real estate business. The road to success is a curved one, and you can only see so far ahead. Step out with the faith that your ideal scene is up around the bend.

Rob would not be where he is today if his old boss Richard Broadwater had not taken him under his wing. While sitting under Richard’s learning tree, Rob soaked up everything there was to know about owning an auto repair business. As his health and appearance improved, his professionalism and manners did, too. Customers started assuming that Rob, a resident of skid row just a few months earlier, was the boss! It took his self image a while to catch up to the rest of him. Prepare now for what’s to come, and everything will change in due time.

Key Questions

Here are some key questions you should ask yourself about your preparation:

  1. How’s your marriage doing?
  2. Do you think you’re a good parent?
  3. Do you have many friends?
  4. How’s your spiritual life?
  5. Do you work out?
  6. Did you go to college?
  7. How’s your financial base?

If you answered any of these questions negatively, you should ask yourself one more question:

What are you doing about that?

Remember: it’s easy to prepare, but it’s also easy not to! Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Prepare to become who you need to be when presented with your Ideal Scene.
