"Addicted to Life" Chapter 4 Review - You Have to Prepare NOW for What’s Coming!

The theme of Addicted To Life! Chapter 4 is “You Have To Prepare Now For What’s Coming!” Rob expands on this concept by explaining how it played out in his story.

Prepare for what's next before you climb the mountain.Prepare NOW Or You Will Regret It Later!

After a quick recap of the first three chapters, Rob reminds us that the difference between where you are right now and where you’ll be in five years will be the books you read, media you consume, classes you attend, and people you meet. What are you surrounding yourself with today, and how would you like your life to look in five years? You must step out in faith in order to reach that goal, which Rob calls your Ideal Scene. Before you can take advantage of the right opportunity, you must prepare now.

Next, Rob talks about advantages. Rob has had many opportunities over the years. Very few of them were easy choices, since there was inherent risk involved. Rob had to examine the advantages he had built for himself in the marketplace to determine if those opportunities were the right choices for him, business wise. Ask yourself, “What am I doing to set myself apart in the marketplace?” and you’ll know if you are prepared.

Opportunities Rob Took Advantage Of Over The Years

One such opportunity was Rob ordering Carleton Sheets’ property investment course years ago. Even though Rob technically couldn’t afford the manual, he did have the advantages of motivation and work ethic to see the course through. He applied what he learned in order to lay the capstone of his real estate business. The road to success is a curved one, and you can only see so far ahead. Step out with the faith that your ideal scene is up around the bend.

Rob would not be where he is today if his old boss Richard Broadwater had not taken him under his wing. While sitting under Richard’s learning tree, Rob soaked up everything there was to know about owning an auto repair business. As his health and appearance improved, his professionalism and manners did, too. Customers started assuming that Rob, a resident of skid row just a few months earlier, was the boss! It took his self image a while to catch up to the rest of him. Prepare now for what’s to come, and everything will change in due time.

Key Questions

Here are some key questions you should ask yourself about your preparation:

  1. How’s your marriage doing?
  2. Do you think you’re a good parent?
  3. Do you have many friends?
  4. How’s your spiritual life?
  5. Do you work out?
  6. Did you go to college?
  7. How’s your financial base?

If you answered any of these questions negatively, you should ask yourself one more question:

What are you doing about that?

Remember: it’s easy to prepare, but it’s also easy not to! Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Prepare to become who you need to be when presented with your Ideal Scene.

"Addicted to Life" Chapter 3 Review - Create a Wave of Momentum

Rob Rowsell tells his remarkable life story in his book Addicted To Life! In this review of Chapter 3, Rob talks about how the world rewards action. Furthermore, he explains the chapter’s theme, how stacked actions create the wave of momentum that carries you to ultimate success.

Create a Wave of momentum and change your life for good! What Does A Wave Of Momentum Look Like?

Want to create a wave of momentum that takes you on to the next step, and then the next step? You’ve got to commit to being an action taker!

Spiritual and Physical Health

Even after Rob kicked drugs, lost weight, and got his career on track through a series of stacked actions, one thing was still missing. God was calling him into a deeper relationship. Rob started with studying the book The Purpose Driven Life, and then gradually became more deeply active in his local church. Only through pursuing the God who was pursuing him all along did Rob truly move on from his former life. Rob’s spiritual health – his walk with Jesus Christ – is the cement that holds everything together.

Rob also detailed his weight loss journey. Over six months, he shed 70 lbs by transforming his thinking and habits. Truthfully, Rob sometimes slips back into some of his old eating and inactivity traps. When that happens, he gets back on the horse and creates a new wave for his physical health.

Career Momentum: Using Your Advantages

Rob hearkens back to his days as a service writer in an auto repair shop. His wife Claudia also worked in the front of house. While this provided them a good living, they knew God had more in store for them. They leveraged their Advantages, taking as many night classes as they could on real estate and business ownership. Stacking action, the degrees and certificates started piling up. Eventually, they owned one auto repair shop, then another, until five shops filled their portfolio.

At the same time, they were flipping houses and dipping their toes into multifamily real estate investments. As they learned how to increase their Advantages in property investing, they soon realized their next phase involved selling the auto service centers and concentrating solely on their properties.

Conclusion

Remember, the biggest battle we have is the one that takes place between our ears. Being outside your comfort zone is where life begins. Take action today, and start the wave of momentum barreling through the next steps to success!

Information Overload - Business Brain Short CircuitTown Hall Academy Episode 109: How to Handle the  Information Overload, Workload, and All That You Have to Learn

Key Talking Points:

Mark Roberts

  • Prioritize – Decide on what’s important, then focus.  Limit distractions to avoid information overload. I don’t have any email or social media alerts turned on. My phone stays on silent or dnd most times.
  • Trust and empower your staff (delegate)
  • Clear your head. Write things down in order to get them out of your head. I use an app (Remember the Milk) for most daily things. Do it, delegate it, defer it, or drop it.
  • Exercise. There are lots of benefits to this.

Donny Seyfer

  • How, when, and how long are the best to learn new things?
  • Filters our brain automatically sets to ignore what we either don’t want to hear or don’t understand
  • Neural pathways, what they are and how to mow the lawn on them.

Rob Rowsell

  • What’s your system for breaking down the mountain of actionable items you get from this type of an event? If you don’t have a system, you won’t get much done. Select 3-5 items that must get done before you move to other items on the list.
  • The Working on it Tuesdays (WOIT) strategy ensures I don’t forget items at the “helicopter level”. Those are tasks only I can do. We’ve all heard of “Working ON my business, not IN my business”. I dedicate this day/time for that. This is uninterrupted “Maker” time, not “Manager” time.
  • Set realistic, measurable quarterly goals. This also applies to education time. Your coach can help with this. I’m amazed how people overestimate how much can be done in three months, then underestimate what can be done in a year. Write and review what’s most important to get done this quarter, then break that down to what you can knock out weekly. Attack the portion of the list that is “maker” time on Tuesdays. That will really help “move the ball down the field”.
  • Assign the $10/hour items on your list to a team member. That is a huge help to avoid information overload. Overloading on tasks that can be assigned to an assistant  or outside vendor, minimizes an owner’s value. Delegate any $50/hour or less work  to someone else. This is helicopter level thinking. The value we bring to the table is $500/hour+. Although this may be foreign to some, thinking like this will start the process. I once thought I had to take out the trash to set the example for my people. Little did I know I was hurting them by not working on what really made a difference for the company they work for.

Second Chance – Working with and Supporting Addiction

Rob Rowsell overcame drug addiction to become a successful real estate investorWe cover a lot of ground in this episode that will open your eyes to addiction, including:

  • The way out
  • Living life without
  • The law of exposure
  • The reward system
  • Opioids, alcohol and other addictions
  • The signs of relapse

The panel: Matt Fanslow, Eric Ziegler, Rob Rowsell, and Tanner Brandt. Here is a myth: People who struggle with addition come from a bad or broken home and have no support. And here is some truth: Until an addict says ‘Done’ no one can help them. Your heart may say you are done but your actions must demonstrate it.

At least one-third of you have a life experience with addiction or have a close friend, family member, or significant other who struggles. Use this episode in order to help yourself or someone you love with addiction.
